HEALTHY LIVING

  • Y PERSONAL FITNESS (Ages: 9th grade through adult)

Feeling intimidated, embarrassed or uncomfortable in a workout environment is not an issue with Y Personal Fitness.  Caring staff will support and guide you in a private center and small group setting.  Designed to enhance member confidence and commitment to activity, the Y Personal Fitness format will positively impact members’ ability to realize the intrinsic benefits of movement. Y Personal Fitness is a FREE 12-week program for the community.

  • PARENT-YOUTH PRIVATE INSTRUCTION (Grades: 5th – 8th)

Designed to offer youth the opportunity to train with a parent, this program introduces the weight-stack strength machines and aerobic equipment to youth. Appropriate behavior, weight room guidelines and proper execution of exercises are taught. The parent MUST accompany the child to the instruction orientation and must also be within eye-site of youth while they train. To ensure the safety of the child, free-weights are not used.

  • CULTIVATE DISCIPLINE & UNITY

  • TAE KWON-DO (I.T.F.-U.S.T.F) (Ages: 6 years through adult)


More than just self-defense! Gain confidence and empower yourself to make positive life choices through character development from individual and team competition using techniques of bare hands and feet. Engage the spirit, mind and body through observance of the 5 tenants of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.

This safe and interactive program is invigorating for baby boomers and seniors. A variety of movement in the gym and easy-to-use strength machines keep the workout interesting and non-intimidating. Join us in a supportive and fun environment.

  • Cardio Mix & Strength (Ages: 9th grade through adult)

We’re mixing things up by varying the cardio and strength workouts. As a cross-training program, the experience will introduce participants to a wide array of programs available at the Y. Students will gain confidence in their abilities and comfort in different settings.

  • MODIFIED MOVES, MAXIMUM RESULTS

  • ENHANCE® FITNESS (Ages: older adults & individuals with arthritis)

    The Enhance Fitness program is a proven, evidence-based program community-based senior fitness and arthritis management program. It helps older adults become more active, energized and empowered for independent living. Expect a safe, casual atmosphere that encourages social interaction, which is a vital part of health and well-being, and then add an energetic, certified instructor, and the result is a fun and lively program that works.

    Smile away the time as you immerse your body in musical dance rhythms and fun moves. This energetic workout is easy to do. Enjoy the comfortable atmosphere of this carefree, party-like class while getting a cardio and mental challenge that will leave you happy and eager for more!

CARDIO

  • GET ACTIVE

  • ACTIVE TOGETHER (Ages: 9th grade through adult)

This is perfect if you are new to exercise, have not exercised in a long time or are very busy and need to get everything in at one time.  Group Active draws from all four elements of fitness: cardio, strength, balance and flexibility.  It incorporates the step, adjustable weights and inspiring music to keep you motivated and coming back.

  • RIDING TOWARD HEALTH

  • GROUP CYCLING (Ages: 9th grade through adult)

Come and join the cycling team and have fun!  This non-impact aerobic workout motivates people of all fitness levels as individuals learn to pace themselves.  Upbeat music and instructors assist participants in pedaling through a variety of riding modes and techniques.

  • BASIC CYCLING (Ages: 9th grade through adult)
    Have you been wondering what all they cycling hype is about but don’t feel comfortable enough to join a class? Then this class is for YOU! Imagine going on a ride of rolling hills and flat roads that will add strength and endurance to the lower body while riding with a group of like-minded friends and listening to upbeat-motivating music. But don’t stop there, your ride will be followed with stretches to lengthen you muscles and make you feel fresh and renewed.

  • ALL THE RIGHT MOVES

  • TABATA (Ages: 9th grade through adult)

    Tabata features 20 seconds of extreme work followed by 10 seconds of rest repeated 8 times per round. These bursts of intense work have been found to improve both anaerobic and aerobic systems. Modifications will be available and shown for anyone who would prefer a less intense or lower impact approach.

    Ditch the routine and join the party! Lots of people have decided that having fun and working out are not mutually exclusive. Join those who want to have a blast while moving their bodies. It is exercise in disguise!

    A fun and motivating interval style class that incorporates challenging cardiovascular exercises, plyometric and resistance training that will help push you to your personal best. Build strength, endurance, energy and confidence in a fun, motivating and supportive environment that can be personalized to all fitness levels.

  • IT’S TIME TO FIGHT FOR IT

  • CARDIO CORE KICKBOXING (CORE DE FORCE®) (Ages: 9th grade through adult)

    So much more than a typical cardio class. Come try this empowering core-focused workout that is inspired by the highest-octane sport in the world of mixed-martial arts. This workout combines authentic Boxing, Kickboxing, and Muay Thai moves, explosive power moves, and interval training that all engage your core. It all starts with one punch.

  • LIVESTRONG AT THE YMCA (Ages: 9th grade through adult)

    LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a program committed to reaching out to cancer survivors who deserve the opportunity to reclaim or gain their health following their cancer diagnosis and beyond. The 12-week program is FREE and takes place in a clean and supportive environment that is facilitated by specially trained instructors. The goal of this program is to provide the cancer survivors with a unique healing experience. This class is open to all cancer survivors whether newly diagnosed or 20 years out.

  • LIVING WITH PARALYSIS

  • F.E.S. BIKE (Ages: 9th grade through adult)

    The Y strives to reach out to everyone regardless of physical ability. The F.E.S. bike stands for Functional Electrical Stimulation and this exercise mode addresses a need of people with neurological impairments. These bikes provide an exercise option for people with M.S, Parkinson’s, Spinal Cord Injury, Cerebral Palsy, Brain Injury, Stroke, and Benign Tremors. Through Controlled pulses of electrical current, peripheral nerves are stimulated which results in muscles contracting and moving the cranks on the bike. Dynamic motor support in the bike is integrated with the electrical stimulation to ensure patterned activity regardless of individual’s muscle strength or ability to move limbs. Some benefits of using the F.E.S. bike include but are not limited to: reversal of muscle atrophy, improved local blood circulation, increased range of motion, reduced muscle spasticity and neuromuscular re-education. The Sheridan County YMCA is the only facility in the area that has F.E.S. bikes for public use.

    Join us in an enjoyable way to strength train!  Strength Train Together combines traditional strength exercises with the hottest functional training moves to make you fitter and stronger.  High-rep, athletic moves and a periodized training approach are key components of this results-driven workout done to dynamic and motivational music.  It will be FUN!

  • TIME UNDER TENSION

  • SIMPLY CIRCUIT (Ages: 9th grade through adult)

    Tired of lifting the same way every day? Learn how to use a variety of training techniques to keep your muscles guessing as to what you’re doing to them. At times, the BOSU may be incorporated at the end of class to challenge your balance.

  • EMPOWER HOUR

  • SMALL GROUP PERSONAL TRAINING (Ages: 9th grade through adult)

    This small group free-weight strength training class supports the philosophy of teamwork to stay motivated and achieve results while developing strong, everlasting relationships. Both classroom and practical workouts are included in the program. Each person in the class will be accountable to one another and attendance is a must. This class is limited to 6 students and requires prior sign-up. *Online registration & payment available.

MIND-BODY CLASSES

  • LENGTHEN & STRENGTHEN

  • CORE, STRETCH, & BALANCE (Ages: 9th grade through adult)

    Pilates is combined with traditional abdominal work to strengthen the core or powerhouse, lengthen the spine and increase muscle tome. Additional balance work and stretching is offered to improve joint range of motion and functional capacity for activities done throughout the day, your body and mind will feel great after this workout.

  • BALANCE & FLEX TOGETHER (Ages: 9th grade through adult)

    Balance & Flex Together combines Yoga and Pilates fundamentals with athletic training for improvements in balance, mobility, flexibility and the core.  Emotive music drives the experience as you breathe and sweat through this full-body fitness journey together

  • YOGA (Ages: 9th grade through adult)

    Cultivate self-discipline, self-esteem, spiritual and mental well-being and mind-body connection. Join us to enjoy foundation poses, breathing techniques, relaxation exercises and deep stretches.

  • RESTFUL, REJUVINATING & CALM

  • RESTORATIVE YOGA (Ages: 9th grade through adult)

    Does the stress of the day have you feeling tight? This class provides an opportunity to release physical and mental stress in the comfort of supported yoga postures. A wide range of yoga props as well as breath and relaxation guidance are used to contribute to a deep state of rest.

  • GENTLE YOGA (Ages: 9th grade through adult)

    Cultivate self-esteem, spiritual and mental well-being and mind-body connection. Join us and quiet the chatter of everyday life, and relieve stress while you focus on using the breath to relax and stretch.
