HISTORY
Celebrating Our
Past
| The YMCA originated
in 1844 in London, England. Today, there are over 2,500 YMCA's in
the United States and YMCA's are located in more than 130 countries.
The YMCA in Sheridan had an early start in 1901 when J.D. Loucks spurred
the development of a YMCA, including a reading room and gymnasium.
In 1915, H.E. Reckard and Loucks proposed a new building. The organization
faltered as a result of World War I and other factors. |
