Off to Camp Stayover

Ages 8-11 * July 5-6

Come check out the YMCA’s Resident Camp.  Spend two exciting full days and one night with all your friends.  This is the perfect opportunity for you to see what great things happen at our resident camp.  We will leave  the YMCA at 8:00 am and return the following day at 5:00 pm.  Join us for a great stayover adventure!  Space is limited so don’t wait too long to register.

Thunderbird Day Camp

Ages: 6-11 *  8:00 am-4:00 pm

The Thunderbird experience begins as your child enjoys discovering the wonders of the outdoors.   They may try a new challenge, take on a leadership role, improve their self-confidence or learn how to cultivate a positive  attitude.

Achievement, relationships and belonging.  These are just a few of the things that make Camp Thunderbird not only a fun week, but also a place for youth to grow.  Sheridan County YMCA Camp Thunderbird is a place where you can be yourself, make new friends, learn new things, challenge yourself all while having a GREAT time.

Adventure Club

Ages: 4-6  *  9:30 am-12:30 pm

Adventure Club is an excellent introduction to the magic of the Y’s   numerous camp programs.   Your child is   enthusiastically invited to join us for a week of friendships, laughter, and of   course,      ADVENTURE!  We will rendezvous each morning, organize our troops and then enjoy three hours of fun and challenges.  Daily activities may include arts and crafts, swimming, games and much more.  Adventure Clubbers will need to bring a sack lunch, sunscreen, swimming suit and towel.

YMCA Outdoor Science Camps

 Scalpels, Guts and Goo

Ages:  9-12 * 9:00 am -12:00 pm  *  June 12-16

How many hearts does an earthworm have? What does the inside of a jellyfish look like? These and more are all the exciting things you will learn about in Dissection Camp!! Experience life in your hands and fingers when we take apart different organisms and learn about why they are the way they are!  All materials provided.

Participants must be aware, willing and excited to dissect a variety of specimens.  If your camper has previously attended Scalpels, Guts and Goo, we ask them to respect those campers that are first time attendees and not share information with them prior to the          activity.  Enrollment limited to 20 campers.  Instructor is Stephanie Stender Penrose.

Fee:    $90 member  / $120 non-member

This fee includes all specimens and dissection tools needed.

Stream Science

Ages:  6-9  *  1:00-4:00 pm  *   July 24-28

Students will explore science in the WATER through identifying aquatic animals, insects, rocks and plants. This week will include lots of hands on activities while out experimenting in the stream. It will focus on making children aware of the natural world in which we live.

Fee:  $80 member  /  $110 non-member

Sticks and Stones and Dinosaur Bones

Ages: 9-11 * 8:00am – 1:00 pm * June 19-23

Join us for adventure-filled days in this field geology class searching for petrified wood, leaf and fern impression fossils, studying stream bed geology (weathering and erosion),     mapping some unknown areas and creating a topo map.  We’ll also collect rocks to play some rock games.  Let’s be spies in nature while we find and see things that are not   obvious.  Expect the unexpected!  Materials will be provided. Enrollment limited to 15 campers. Instructor is Art Orr.

YMCA Sports Camps

 Y Youth Soccer Camp

Ages:   Kindergarten-8th grade *  June 12-16

K-1st grade / 2nd-3rd grade:  8:30 -10:30 am

4th-5th grades / 6th-8th grades:   8:00-10:30 am

The Y is delighted to partner with a Coach from Sheridan High School.  Participants will learn from the experience of a high level of soccer in Sheridan … with the coaches creative flair!  Do you have a child who yearns to play side by side with the Broncs?  We look    forward to having your player participate this summer!  Campers will  receive  a  t-shirt.  Camp  limited  to 30 participants in each age   division.

Challenger Soccer Camp

Ages: 3-14  *  July 24-28

We have brought in a top British team for this camp.   These players are knowledgeable and  will teach the children everything they need to know about soccer and assist in expanding their playing skills and abilities. Challenger One Week One Passion Camp

Ages: 10-18 *  July 31-August 4

We have teamed up with Sheridan County Soccer Association to provide an additional soccer camp designed to fuel the   passion that your soccer player has.  This 6 hour camp will help hone your soccer fanatic’s skills and continue with their passion for the game.   All registration for this camp will be online at

Y Pickleball

Ages:   3rd-8th grade *  June 26-30  *  9:00-11:00 am

Camp will be held at enclosed tennis grounds in Thorne-Rider Park.

Pickleball is a fun game that is played on a badminton court with a lowered net of 34 inches at center.  It is played with a perforated plastic ball (whiffle ball) and wood paddles.  It is a great sport that provides exercise and builds  comraderies.  It is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast paced, competitive game. Arlie Johnson will teach techniques, strategies and other methods that will keep you coming back for more pickleball.

Frank McCarthy Basketball Camp

Ages:   K-8th grade *  July 17-21 *  8:00-11:30 am

The Y has teamed with Coach McCarthy in providing parents the    opportunity to have their children encouraged, engaged and taught the finer techniques of basketball.  Kids will appreciate playing with their friends in a setting that will continue to inspire them in the sport of basketball.

Y Track and Field Camp

Ages:   Kindergarten-6th grade *  June 5-9

K-2nd grade:   9:30 am-10:30 am

3rd-4th grades / 5th-6th grades:   8:00 am-9:30 am

This camp is designed to help direct youth with a serious desire to enjoy a life-long activity.  High School Coach Stacie McFadden and her staff will be leading this camp.  Come learn running techniques, strategies and events that occur at track and field competitions.  AND….have a great time doing it! Campers will receive a t-shirt. Camp limited to 20 participants in each age division.

Y Volleyball Camp

Ages:   3rd-8th grades *  July 10-13

3rd-4th grade:  9:30 am-11:00 am

5th-8th grade:   7:30 am-9:30 am

Coach Jennifer Stadler, of the Sheridan College Generals Volleyball team is excited to lead our volleyball camp this summer.  Her knowledge, ability to coach and fun personality is sure to be a hit for the volleyball player in you. Campers will receive a t-shirt. Camp is limited to 20 participants in each age division.

Y Bowling Camp

Ages: 2nd-8th grade *  July 31-August 4

2nd-4th:    9:30-11:00 am

5th-8th:     8:00-9:30 am

Y Bowling Camp provides a fun, challenging and fully interactive learning environment where both novice and experienced bowlers attain the skills needed to truly enjoy the sport of bowling. Bowlers are provided instruction as well as social time to meet friends and have a blast! Have fun learning to bowl!

Youth Theater Camp I

Ages: 8-12  *  June 19-23 *  9:00 am-3:00 pm

This camp is for students that have never been in a YMCA Theater Camp or Tandem Productions play before.  The focus of this camp will  be  to  learn  about  stage  presence,  vocal  projection,  stage blocking, character          development and audition skills.  This camp will include a tour of  both the WYO Theater and Carriage House Theater and will  end  with  a  variety  show  on our final afternoon of camp. Showtime at the Y will be 1:00 pm on June 23.

Youth Theater Camp II

Ages:   9-14  *  June 26-30 *  9:00 am-4:00  pm

This camp is for students that have been to Theater Camp at the Y a previous year or students who have been in Tandem Production plays at the WYO   Theater.  In five short days these campers will audition, be cast in parts,    create  sets,  rehearse  and  perform “Seussical Kids.” The  final performance will be held at 2:00 pm on June 30 at the WYO Theater.

Theater Prop Making Camp

Ages:   9-14  *  June 26-30 *  9:00 am-4:00  pm

This camp will focus on the set-building and prop-making skills necessary to bring the theatrical world to life.  This camp will give campers the opportunity to   creatively develop the sets, props and costumes for a production of “Seussical Kids”. The performance   will  be  held  at  2:00  pm  on   June 30 at  the WYO Theater.

Exploring Theater

Ages:   10-14  *  July 31-Aug. 4 *  9:00 am-4:00  pm

Exploring Theater offers campers the opportunity to be highly involved in the decision making processes while putting on a theatrical performance.  This includes designing their set, costumes, props and blocking while they develop the details of their own performance.  There will be a performance held on Aug. 4 in the Mars Theater.

Fee:  $110 member  /   $140 non-member  * Limited to 10 campers.

Behind the Scenes

Ages:   10-14  *  July 17-21 *  1:00-4:00  pm

Let’s explore the many facets of theater that DON’T involve being in the spotlight.  Campers will have an   opportunity to learn about    costuming / blocking / choreography / stage combat and more.  How many ways can one be involved in theatrical arts without being an actor or actress?

Fee:  $50 member  /   $80 non-member  * Limited to 15 campers.

Show Choir Camp

Ages: 8-14  *  July 10-14 *  1:00-4:00 pm

Come unleash your inner superstar in Show Choir Camp.  Your singer will develop vocal and dance skills relevant to performing in a show choir.  Campers will explore a wide variety of song selections as they rehearse and help prepare their very own show choir performance.  Performance to be decided at a later date.

Ages:   8-14 *  Aug. 7-11 *  1:00-4:00 pm

In this camp, students will explore many different methods for    communicating stories.  Spoken-word stories, writing, photography, illustration and cinema will all be studied.  What is the historical overview of the many ways people have told their stories?

Art Unlimited

Ages:   8-12 *  July 10-13 * July 17-21

9:00 am-12:00  pm

Whether you’re a painter, sculptor or just love to make art, this is the camp for you!  Campers will explore a variety of art media and techniques.  Unleash your creative spirit!  Expose your inner Picasso and join us during this creative week.

 Beginning International Folk Dance

Ages: 8-11  *  July 17-21 *  9:00-11:00 am

Calling all boys and girls who love music, love to move and are interested in other countries of the world.  We’ll learn authentic dances and perform to authentic music. All dances will meet the needs and skill level of the group.  No experience necessary – just a great    attitude, non-marking sole shoes and daily attendance.  An   informal performance will take place on July 21.

Fee:   $50 member  /  $80 non-member * Limited to 36 dancers

Intermediate International Folk Dance

Ages:   11-15 *  July 17-21 *  1:00-3:00 pm

This camp is for boys and girls who may already have folk dance   experience, love music, love to move and are interested in other countries of the world. We’ll learn authentic dances and perform to authentic music. All dances will meet the needs and skill level of the group.  Previous Folk Dance experience is recommended, along with a great attitude, non-marking soled shoes and daily attendance.  An informal performance will take place on July 21.

Fee:   $50 member  /  $80 non-member * Limited to 36 dancers.

 Marimba Ensemble

Ages:   10-14 *  Aug. 7-11 *  10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Come become a percussionist with the summer Marimba Ensemble Camp.  Campers will have the opportunity to learn about, play and perform on a set of authentic African Marimbas.  We will enjoy an end-of-camp performance.
