YMCA
of the Bighorns is nestled along the base of the beautiful Bighorn
Mountains. It is approximately 45 minutes from the front door
of
the Sheridan County YMCA. Lakes, streams, forest, beautiful
mountain peaks, scenery, and abundant wildlife all provides an
incredible playground for our campers.
A summer at YMCA of the
Bighorns is a life-shaping experience that
encourages a spirit of exploration and adventure. Our staff
strive to create a safe environment while each part of camp life is
designed to promote the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect
and responsibility. While providing several traditional
activities such as canoeing, hiking, and fishing, we also provide a
balance of outdoor education, fun, challenge, responsibility and
adventure that define campers’ lives.
We encourage you to take a minute and see the great additions to
our camp programs that YMCA of the Bighorns will provide.

Thunderbird Day Camp
Ages 6-12
There
will not be any scheduled overnighters held at Day Camp. Check out our exciting Off-to-Camp Stayovers
to be held at YMCA of the Bighorns.
Think
camp….think FUN! Campers say YMCA Camp Thunderbird is all about fun.
Fun is a top priority. It ranks right up there with
teaching key values of:
CARING * HONESTY * RESPECT * RESPONSIBILITY
The
Thunderbird experience begins as your child enjoys discovering the
wonders of the outdoors. They may try a new challenge, take on a
leadership role, improve their self-confidence or learn how to
cultivate a positive attitude. Some of the adventures and challenges
given to our campers are the more traditional sessions such as
canoeing, hiking, rock climbing, archery, teams course, and arts &
crafts. This year we have planned a few “special” events for the
oldest day camp group.
These are just a few of the things that
make Camp Thunderbird not only a fun week, but also a place for youth
to grow. Sheridan County YMCA Camp Thunderbird is a place where
you can be yourself, make new friends, learn new things, get to know
yourself a little better, and certainly, have a GREAT time.

Youth Resident Camp
Discover
the magic of camp and enjoy fun activities in the great outdoors.
Our activities provide new friendships, adventure and personal
growth creating days as unique as each of our campers.
Parents and families will deliver their campers to YMCA of the Bighorns
on Sunday afternoon and assist them in becoming familiar with the camp,
meeting camp staff and getting settled in. Parents and family may
pick their camper up on Thursday afternoon or they may choose to ride
the YMCA bus back to the Y.
There will be both gender specific
camps and co-ed camps offered at Y Resident camp. Co-ed weeks
will find the campers assigned to gender specific cabins. All
camps will have a maximum enrollment of 30. Campers gain
independence as they spend 5 days and 4 nights away from home in an
atmosphere committed to building healthy youth.
Campers learn
responsibility as they take care of themselves and their belongings
(with proper guidance), and gain respect for others as they share a
living space with fellow campers. Campers learn to live the core
values of the YMCA - CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY -
in terms of themselves, others, and the environment. The value of
YMCA Camp extends well beyond the camp session.
